My client is a leading business operating within the IT Software industry, having experienced rapid growth they have now engaged FRS to assist with the appointment of their first In house Finance Leader (No 1)

This client is based centrally in Birmingham (B1) and offers hybrid working 3 days per weeks. Joining this privately owned business you will operate as Head of Finance full responsibility for the Finance function from day-to-day transactions (including the appointment of administrative support) through to financial reporting and Company submissions whilst adding value to the management team and supporting them with proactive financial management.


• Day-to-day transaction accounting; billing clients, processing supplier invoices, bank reconciliations, monthly reconciliations including deferred income, and accounting to HMRC for PAYE and VAT, submission of ONS data and ERS return, and processing the monthly payroll and expense claims
• Developing and applying robust financial processes and controls as the business continues to scale
• The preparation of monthly management accounts and an associated Finance Report to the Board/investors, summarising trends and highlighting variances
• Maintaining a financial forecasting model
• Managing the annual budgeting process through to Board sign off and investor approval
• Providing the information requested by investors and stakeholders
• Liaison with third parties including accountants, lawyers, and HMRC for the preparation and filing of year-end statutory accounts, tax computations, filings at Companies House, claims for R&D Tax Credits
• Regular meetings with the Co-founders and investors to provide updates and support business decision-making processes
• Line management responsibilities include the hiring, training, and coaching of administrative support

The ideal candidate will be working towards a professional qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) if not already qualified and ideally have broad hands on experience whilst working within a SME Business

Experience of working in an investor-backed start-up with strong growth expectations is desirable and previous experience working in a software subscription or membership business would be an advantage

A good level of IT Literacy is essential with Working knowledge of Sage 50 or Xero being desirable, Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential
Knowledge of SEIS, R&D, stock options, and fundraising is also desirable but not essential

Those working in practice seeking a first move into industry will also be considered.

In return a basic salary of £50,000-£70,000 Bonus and share options can be offered.
